Marinate

Towards the beginning of any year, any time period, any mission, or any journey, it’s a good time to reflect … I call it “marinate.” You can think about your life, your past, and everything that’s brought you up to that point. Then, after you’ve marinated, you’ll realize that the past is done, there is nothing you can change. However, more importantly, you can still have some influence over the future. Think about what that positive impact could be, set small goals for yourself, then begin to take small steps to accomplish those small goals. Over time, those small goals could turn into big accomplishments.

Why do I call it marinating? Because, just like cooking, while something is marinating it may appear nothing is happening. The meat is just sitting there soaking. But, in fact, that soaking will have a huge impact on the future flavor and taste of that meat. Your life is the same, while you’re reflecting on your past, from the outside, it may seem like nothing is happening. But, once you’ve gained a better understanding of your past, and maybe even some of the reasons for your past, you will better understand yourself. With that understanding and confidence, you can go on to set more goals for yourself and have a positive impact on the future.
